Data center development is one of the most significant climate justice issues of our decade. While data centers have existed for decades, the rapid advancement of artificial intelligence has created a need for large hyperscale data center campuses that have outsized impacts on people and the environment. Maryland has already felt the impacts of data center development from within the state and outside the state in Virginia. In this presentation, you will learn about what impacts have been felt in Maryland from data centers and what the state and localities can do to promote more sustainable data center development.
